Wheelchair Rugby
Manawatu wheelchair rugby first started as a break away from the
Wellington Club in 2000 and soon became stronger than Wellington. We
train at PN Boys High School Gym each Wednesday at 7.00 p.m. Our Club
has has varied success over the 9 years, having won the National
Tournament once in the 8 point arena and 3.5 arena with quite a number
of 2nd and third placings as well. We have also had a couple of
Wheelblacks produced from our club. Most years we hold one of the
national league tournaments and this year we host one in May. We have a
strong club, with as many able bodied players as we have disabled.
Wheelchair rugby is a fast, physical and challenging sport, which is
very addictive. Our youngest regular player is 6 years old and has
already become a classy player who takes the hits and gives them just
like the adults
